How do I set up and use the USB Wi-Fi antenna with PrintPix?

How to Set Up and Use the USB Wi-Fi Antenna with PrintPix

The USB Wi-Fi antenna used with PrintPix devices allows for wireless connection between the PrintPix box and Wi-Fi networks. However, it is not necessary in every setup and does not improve the quality of the printer connection itself. Below, we provide guidance on when and how to use the antenna, as well as address common misconceptions about its functionality.

Understanding When the USB Antenna is Needed

The USB Wi-Fi antenna is optional: it is only required for a wireless setup, that is, when your devices join the Printpix network over Wi-Fi or when you bridge the PrintPix box to a Wi-Fi network. A stronger antenna lets you place the box further away. If you are using a wired connection, such as Ethernet or USB, between an iPad and a printer, the antenna is not necessary. In these instances, the wired connection fully supports the printer's functionality.

Setting Up the USB Antenna

To establish a Wi-Fi connection using the USB antenna, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the Antenna: Plug the antenna into any available USB port on the PrintPix device. The PrintPix device typically has four USB ports, and the antenna is compatible with any of them.

  2. Verify Connection: If the antenna is not recognized when plugged into one USB port, unplug it and try another port until the connection is successful.

  3. Configuration: Once the antenna is securely connected and recognized, ensure your PrintPix settings allow for Wi-Fi connectivity. Consult your device’s manual for specific configuration instructions if needed.

Common Misconceptions About the USB Antenna

  • Does the Antenna Improve Printer Connection Quality? No, the USB antenna is solely designed to enable a Wi-Fi connection for the PrintPix box. It does not affect or enhance the quality of the connection between your printer and PrintPix.

  • Is the Newer USB Version of the Antenna Better? There is no functional change to the PrintPix device itself with the use of the newer USB antenna. The antenna serves the same purpose: enabling Wi-Fi connectivity.
